We train indoors at an equestrian centre (see directions) two evenings a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.  All Harrogate Training Society trainers are active experienced competitors taking part in competitions most weekends.

MONDAY
We have three/four classes on a Monday. Two run at 7:15-8:15. One is the newbie class, where we introduce all new handlers & dogs to agility.
The second one is the more advanced class, where most of the people are competing or on the point of competing. We try to keep the small & medium dogs in here with the odd large one thrown in just for fun.

8:15-9:15

Most of the handlers & dogs have moved up from the newbie's class to this one.

9:15-10:00
This is for the handlers & dogs that are competing on a regular basis & we try to keep the large dogs in here.

WEDNESDAY
We have two/three classes

7:45-8:45

This is split into two groups. One being the newbie's. The second being the class where the newbie's progress to. This class is split into two so we can have more dogs working.

8:50-10:00
This is again for the handlers & dogs that are competing at a regular basis.

At the moment we have a waiting list for starters. However, if you are interested in joining or want to know more, please contact Anna Wright.  You will be invited to come through for an assessment lesson, be asked to fill in an application form & put on the waiting list.

We do not allow dogs under the age of ONE YEAR to train as they have not finished growing and if you work them too early they will damage their joints, something we do not want to happen.  We encourage the larger, heavier breeds not to start before they are eighteen months old, as it takes them a little longer to mature.

But if you are on the waiting list with your young dog, then you are more than welcome to bring him/her through occasionally so they can watch & get used to a very noisy and exciting world. Just let the instructors know you are coming through.

Please wear old clothing and trainers, as it can be a little dusty.  If you carry your dog in the car put a cover over the seats and bring along some drinking water, a fairly long lead and some “poo” bags to clean up after your dog, just in case.  Please do not use check chains or slip leads, as these could be very dangerous if they get caught on the equipment.  A normal flat collar is okay.   Also, bring along some tasty treats for your dog and his favourite toy (but not a squeaky one).

Dogs must be on a lead at all times when in the precincts of the training venue except when the dog is working or when requested by the trainer.  THIS INCLUDES THE CAR PARK AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

Please do not expect your dog to become a star in the first training session.  It may look easy when you see the trained dogs whizzing around the course on TV, but what you don’t see is the countless hours of hard work that has gone into training the dogs to that standard.

We all try to make agility as much fun for the dogs & handler as we can. We welcome junior handlers. But if you bring along members of the family, they must understand they cannot be in the school whilst the dogs are working. There is a gallery where they can sit, but it gets very cold in the winter.

We do provide Tea & Coffee, which is free to all members.
All we ask you to do is bring your smile with you & enjoy yourselves.
