Anna Wright

Hi everybody my name is Anna & I’ve been playing at agility for about 12 years.

I have three border collies but In January 2008 I lost my lovely Kita. She was 13 when I had to let her go; there is a farewell to her on the website. I have Echo, who at the time of writing this, is 11 1/2 & Zodee who is 6. That left me with two so I have now bought another Border Collie Puppy; his name is Bear. When I saw his picture at about two weeks old, he looked just like a big Bear lying next to his tiny brother. He was born in Sept 2009 so will start gentle work in Sept 2010, but won’t be competing until 2011 which sounds a very long way off but I know time will fly. So a little bit about my dogs.

Echo She is black & white & is now 11 ½ as I have said earlier. She is still a total nut case & thinks she is 18 months.  That was when she started her agility career. It took her a while to really understand agility & for two seasons I asked my friend’s daughter to compete her in the junior classes. Echo was really switched on to children & after her initial settling in period; she worked really well for her handler. Then my friend’s daughter got her own puppy so I took over competing with Echo we started to settle in & work as a team, from then on we never looked back. She is amazing & loves her agility life. Screaming whilst she lines up waiting her turn, but working quietly & fast once in the ring. I think we make a good team now.

Zodee She is a very pretty tri colour with half a white face. I found her at the Blue Cross in Thirsk when she was 8 months old. The second I saw her I fell in love with her & a bond formed. She is now 6, She adores agility & is one of the easiest dogs to run, as long as you get things right. Being a rescue dog she does have her challenges but we are ironing these out. Her biggest challenge is she hates being crowded by other dogs, she panics if she thinks there is no escape for her, but we are getting there & she is trusting smaller spaces a lot more.

Bear is a black & white baby Border Collie. He comes from a family of four, two sisters & one brother. For now that is all I can tell you but will update & post pictures once he is a little older.

About me----well I’m totally mad but love teaching. I used to teach adults & children to ride (& fall off) but in 2006 I retired from that. Got fed up with the wet, wind, cold, frost & snow. But I was already teaching agility so the step from horses to dogs was relatively easy. I teach on a Monday & Wednesday evening & love every second of it. We have a good laugh which makes the dogs work better. It’s a great achievement to start new people & dogs off then watch them progress to competition level and come away with their first clear rounds & later rosettes & even trophies. I am very proud of our club & all its members. I was one of its founder members & have watched it grow from a handful of people to I think we have well over 60 members now. (Plus a waiting list)

Anna her crazy dogs.
