About Agility Dog agility is a relatively new sport, starting as a fun demo at Crufts in 1978, where the animal's fitness and the handler's ability to train and direct the dog over and through certain obstacles are tested. Agility Shows are run against the clock to ensure that handlers do not take their dogs round the course at a walking pace in the hope of ensuring a clear round. The setting of a reasonable course time, together with the careful design of the course, allows the dog and handler to show their skill at control and speed HATS has it's own set of competition standard equipment and your dog will be trained over the following obstacles:
There are competitions around the UK every weekend throughout summer months and several indoor competitions during the winter too. However, not everyone who comes to training wants to compete and some just train to have some quality time with their pet. Most breeds of dog can train and compete, not just border collies! Size doesn't matter as there are competitions for small and medium dogs, as well as large.
Two pieces of contact equipment, the A-scale and the dog walk. The dog must touch the coloured 'contacts' at the bottom.
